TBF:Friday Night Fights!

“TBF: Friday Night Fights!” is a monthly event hosted by Tampa Bay Fencers that can be best described as a casual electric epee competition. Geared mostly for adult fencers, minors are allowed to participate on an invitational basis. Through this tradition, Tampa Bay Fencers seeks to continue fencing's core culture of comradeship and competition.

ANNOUNCEMENT: The next Friday Night Fights! is scheduled to start at 7PM, April 27, 2012

No, kids, this is not what we do at the Fights!. These fellas aren't even using epees. I just thought it was a cool image.
Keen observers would note that this is bayonet (?!?) versus saber. My money's on the guy with the gun. -- DCU

The TBF: Friday Night Fights!

Fourteen fencers showed up to challenge each other for a spot in the Friday Night Fights List of Champions at the new Kombat Arts Institute venue. At the biggest showing, yet--two pools of seven battled it out for favorable positions on the final Direct Eliminations tree. At around 2AM, Matt Richardson (TBF) faced Ryan Wheeler (USF) for the chance to fence against defending champion, Don Conrad Uy who had just defeated USFs Will Siegelin. Matt and Ryan matched each other point for point, neither getting greater than a 2 point lead. In a "La Belle" bout, Ryan won his place in the finals with Don. Solving Ryan's challenge, Don Uy was able to take a sizable lead at the mid-point count and never looked back to emerge the victor (15-11).

Again we had a night of La Belle bouts. Stephen Yovino tried but failed to take back a measure of pride from upstart Diego Uy who had defeated him last FNF event. Ray Kossman managed to stop Stuart Oleson in another nail biter. Matt's epic bout with Ryan only makes their next meeting that much more exciting.

Who will be the next entry in the Friday Night Fights perpetual plaque? Find out on Apri1 27th!
